SLAC Start-of-Semester Event on Friday Oct 4 from 5pm – 10pm, 801 Warrenville Rd., Mansfield, CT
To the SLAC community,
You are welcomed to a SLAC Start-of-Semester Event on Friday Oct 4 from 5pm – 10pm. The party will be held outdoors, and will include lawn games and opportunities for socializing, including opportunities to meet our new SLAC Fellows! Beverages and dinner will be served, with gluten-free and vegetarian options. If anyone has a serious allergy (nuts etc.), please let us know so the item(s) can be avoided. Significant others and children are welcome!!
The party location will be 801 Warrenville Rd., Mansfield, CT. This street is also known as route 89. The property is a blue-grey farmhouse with a stone wall and garden. Parking on site will be limited, so we ask that people carpool where possible. About 6-7 cars can park without blocking each other in our driveway (please don’t park on the lawn). Additional cars can park along the road, to either side of the house, but in this case DO park on the grass, as cars sometimes drive fast around the blind turn (it is not safe to park partly in the road). Also, we are asking for one or two volunteers to shuttle people to/from Mount Hope Park which is .4 mi down the road. This outdoor park offers additional public parking. When we have a couple volunteers we will give you their cellphone numbers so you can call them for a pick-up!!
The party will be held outdoors in a combination of party tent and old barn, so please dress according to the weather!! Consider temperatures after dark — you may want to bring a sweater or jacket.
Lawn games including Bocce, Cornhole and Croquet will be available. We will have some seating, as well as an outdoor fire pit. We’ll have some bug spray, but please bring your own if you have a favorite.
Finally, we are looking for volunteers who can help with set-up on Thursday evening, Oct 3. In particular we need strong individuals who can help move and set up the tent (which weighs several hundred pounds), pull the ropes and hammer spikes to hold them. We also need to set up tables and chairs. At least 4 people are needed, although more are welcome. We will need help again on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5 to dissemble and return everything. Please indicate on the RSVP if you can help one or both days!
Online link to RSVP is below — please indicate if you are attending, how many you are bringing, if you have special food requests, and whether you are able to come on Thurs Oct 3 in the late afternoon to help set up and/or Saturday afternoon Oct 5 to help break down.
